BUDGET & RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
An education leader promotes the success of every student by ensuring management of the organization, operation, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment. In times of adequate and inadequate resources, effective education leaders make the necessary adjustments to ensure the shared vision moves toward growth and improvement. Administrators will need to exhibit and reflect on their work in budget and human resource management with experiences and activities over the course of their career.

PROJECT: COMPARING BUDGETS
During my time at the University of Kansas, there were numerous discussions, reasearch opportunities, and applications concerning budgeting and human resources. Initially, I thought the word "budget" solely meant finances. Over time, my thoughts changed dramatically. Budgeting is the process of allocating fixed resources to the prioritized needs of an organization. The budget also provides an important tool for the control and evaluation of sources and the uses of resources. When allocating school funds for classroom budgets, or any line item for that matter, it is important to know where the money is coming from and how spending is affecting student achievement. Most of the financial resources for classrooms originates from delegated funds. Additional monies and resources may come from community resources and grants. Because our school is 50% economically disadvantaged, our school will budget most supplies out of building funding; like pencils, paper, markers, scissors, rulers, etc. This limits the burden placed on parents and teachers to supply their student and classroom needs. Another approach he uses it to ask the teachers to prioritize their classroom needs. In this way, all of the necessary items are purchased and a few of the want and would-love-to-have items are bought depending on the yearly budget. Finally, our school has partnered with local churches to have a "Book Bag & Supply" campaign in which these items are donated to students who fall into this category.

ALLOCATING THE EDUCATIONAL DOLLAR
MANAGEMENT BY WANDERING AROUND
I had the opportunity to read a great resource for any building administrator, School Management by Wandering Around by Larry Frase. MBWA is an active person-to-person process that relies on deeds, involvement, and participation to create better schools. The MBWA leader possesses an honest awareness of self and how he affects others. They create and clarifiy new visions and encourages and empowers others to join in the quest to capture visions and transform them into reality. The MBWA leader is aware of the power, worth, and value of people.and actively pursue the school's mission. By practicing this concept, the school leader understands that they must "walk the walk" if they are going to "talk the talk".
BUDGET REQUEST MEETINGS
My mentor and I had the opportunity to talk about several items that we would like to see for our school's 2018-2019 budget and constructed a proposal concerning these potential requests. The following photo lists some major takeaways that we discussed when planning and proposing items for our school's budget:

FY 2021 BUDGET COMMITTEE: DINWIDDIE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

This committee allowed me to gain a better understanding of Dinwiddie County Public Schools's financial plan and operation. This plan encompasses a one-year fiscal period beginning July 1 and ending June 30 annually. Preparation of each year's budget in initiated by the Superintendent who requests preliminary revenue and expenditure information from the schools and the departments within Dinwiddie County. The process continues with budget workshops, public hearings, and adoption by the School Board. The process ends upon approval of the consolidated budget and adoption of the appropriation resolutions by the Board of Supervisors.
